Meet a Wedding Florist in London, Ontario- Rosemary

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR COMPANY

Who is Rosemary? Well, I usually say that I am crazy, which I can be for sure. Then on a serious level, I describe myself as honest and open. I am definitely a people person and love to make people happy. Giving and enthusiastic are other words that come to mind. Time 4 Flowers is a home based, floral design company that offers bouquets, sympathy flowers, and focusses mostly on weddings.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO WEDDING FLORALS?

I started the professional floral design course thinking in the back of my mind that I eventually was going to be a wedding planner. After beating myself up for “not being good enough” in the first semester, I made a flip in my mind the second semester and within a few weeks I came home and told my husband that I was going to do this forever. It was him who came up with the name “Time 4 Flowers”. I couldn’t wait for the wedding bouquets, the boutonnieres and corsages to come and I just knew that weddings are my thing to do.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT BEING A FLORIST?

The moment I deliver the flowers to the bride and seeing that she loves them as much as I do.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FLOWER AND / OR STYLE (MODERN, CLASSIC, NATURAL, GLAM) AND WHY?

It may be a little obvious, however I always come back to the rose. It must be in my name, I can’t help it but absolutely loving each and every type or rose, the standard rose, the garden rose and even spray roses. Not sure if I can explain why, it’s a feeling, maybe to me the rose is the romance flower.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED, AND WOULD PASS ALONG TO OTHER NEW WEDDING FLORISTS JUST GETTING STARTED?

My biggest lesson has been to follow my gutt feelings. When something doesn’t feel right, do not do it anyways. And one to pass on to new wedding florists is to build up great relationships with your suppliers. Be honest with them and tell them your expectations. I have been very fortunate to build relationships with my sales agents and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

WHAT ARE YOU FAVOURITE TRENDS WHEN IT COMES TO WEDDING FLOWERS?

I really like that the cascading bouquets are coming back. I have always loved them and always have that little extra bit of excitement when a bride tells me she would prefer the cascading bouquet.

WHAT TIPS OR ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO COUPLES WHO ARE ORDERING THEIR WEDDING FLOWERS?

Come to consultations prepared. Do a little research on the cost of flowers at the florist, so you know what can get within your budget. Bring samples of bouquets you have seen that you like, as well as pictures of the dresses and invitation. These are all tools that will help the florist create arrangements that will fit your colours and/or theme. And remember that flowers that are not in season will cost more and not all flowers are available year-round.
